All in a day's work

Well we have had some fun and "fun" lately. This is what we have been up to.

On Dec 3 we hosted a super fun Christmas Party for all the Seminary and Institute employees in the Calgary area.  We were able to have almost everyone attend and we think that everyone had a fun time, we know we sure did.  I was so excited to plan and prepare the meal for the night.  I'm not sure if anyone cares about the details but too bad!  We started with a nice dinner of a delicious spiral cut ham from costco (I cheated a little there but it was so worth it to have less worry when guests are arriving.) To go with the ham I made a honey mustard sauce and we served double baked garlic potatoes, dill carrots, bacon wrapped asparagus, buns and lemon water. YUM.  We ate almost that same meal all week because we had quite a bit left over and it never got old, by old I mean boring or yucky.  After dinner and some socializing we set out dessert/snacks.  We have a chocolate fountain so we used that and had strawberries, bananas, pineapple, apples, marshmallows and pretzels.  We used skewers so people could make their own fruit kebobs and go to town on the chocolate.  Another family was nice enough to bring a 7 layer dip as well.  I love 7 layer dips!  The final touch was some hot apple cider simmering in the crock pot.   I apologize for all these details but I really love food and love talking about food.  We did do other things beside eat though, we had a white elephant exchange where we some awesome gifts like "the fart game" and framed personally autographed portraits, etc.  We also had an ugly sweater contest and some other games.

Proud winners of the ugly sweater contest!

Another fun thing was the Young Women's activity we had a little while ago.  It was a fitness night and to make it a little more exciting we decided to throw in an 80's theme and work out to a little Richard Simmons  It was a lot of fun and the outfits were even more fun.  I have to share even though Matt will probably have a minor heart attack when he sees that I am letting people see how cool I am.  He likes to keep that a secret!  See if you can pick me out from the young women!

so cool!

Now for some "fun" things.  Last week we had just returned from a nice grocery shopping trip and I was putting away groceries when Aiden decided that it was time that he tried to stuff something up his nose.  I know, classic.  He came up to me and was saying "stuck",  me thinking that he was referring to a toy that he wanted to play with I tried to get him to show me what but he would take me anywhere and proceeded to stick his finger up his nose and do that thing that you do when you are trying to itch your nose but you can't use your hands (you know, pull you upper lip down over your teeth - I bet you are all trying it out right now!)  Anyway, I clued in right away to what was actually going on and then quickly got over concerned because the bead was on the cleft side and I couldn't see it and I was concered about where it could go and then I noticed some blood trickling out of his nose.  So we quickly went to a clinic where we waited forever and also where I noticed that I could see the bead and it didn't look like it would be difficult to get out, but then we got put in a treatment room where we would have to wait forever again.  Luckily one of the doctors stopped by and gave me instruction on something i could try to help the bead to move further down the nostril and it would be easier to get out.  So I proceed to basically give my son mouth to mouth but only closing one nostril and leaving the one with the bead open.  Aiden happened to think this was quite hilarious which was nice because I was able to blow and blow and get that bead out so we could get out of there finally.  So if any of you ever had a kid get something stuck up their nose just give them mouth to mouth, it works!  The funny thing about this experience is that for some reason I really felt like a mother that day.  Can't really explain it but I all I can say is I felt like a Mom.

One more tidbit for you.  I got to change a flat tire on our car today.  "Fun"!  Although thankfully I got to do it in our garage. After I drove out, got several blocks away and then realized the car felt very funny.  Got out and sure enough the tire was completely flat.  We'll have to see if my decision to drive back to the house and park in the garage to change the tire was a bad one (for the rim's health) but I much preferred the environment of our garage for changing my first flat tire.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas,
from the Wildes
