Everyone Loves a Birth Story...

This time around was so much different than Aiden's Birth.  I was hoping and praying all my pregnancy that I would go into labour naturally, and it happened!  At about 2:00 in the morning on November 9 it registered in my brain that I was actually having contractions.  So I'm not exactly sure when they started but that's when I really woke up.  I woke Matt up shortly after that we talked about what we should do.  I wasn't sure what was happening, my contractions were really short only about 20-30 seconds but really close together, every 2-3 minutes.  We decided we should go to the hospital and see how things were going.  We grabbed Aiden out of bed and dropped him off at friends (thankfully Aiden sleeps deeply, I don't think he even woke up.) Went to the seminary to leave a note on the door saying that there wouldn't be classes that morning. And then SPED to High River.  Things were pretty brutal by this time.  We made it to the hospital and I rushed into reception and when a contraction started, I couldn't stand so I went to my hands and knees.  Nurses came and helped me and I was embarrassed so I told them I was just a wuss.  When they got me to a room and checked me, I was 9 cm, this was at about 3:30.  At that moment, my hopes of getting an epidural were crushed!!  Emmeline was born at 4:30, a perfect little baby girl!!

We had picked High River Hospital because it is supposed to slow and quiet, much nicer than Calgary hospitals.  Unfotunately, we had bad timing.  There were lots of births, they had toom many women and not enough rooms, I had to share a room.  And then the real excitement came that afternoon when the fire alarm went off and they called a code red.  Turns out there was just a really stong smoke smell and they never found an actual fire but during it all, we had to be evactuated to the cafeteria.  It was not fun.
We love our little Emmy.  She is such a good baby.  Sleeping 4-6 hours at night.  Aiden adores her.  He is gentle but wants to hug here ALL the time.  He always says "she's so cute" and "I love it"... I'm trying to get him to say "her" instead of "it"!
We need to get a family picture soon.

Sheryl! Congratulations! You're much better than I -I would have broken down to tears for having to share a room, much less than being a part of that fire drill. Yech. She's beautiful! We miss you guys.
